In April 2026, Spark submitted a response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Request for Information on opportunities, challenges, and emerging areas in USDA's statistical data, analysis, and research.
USDA's data products and research reports form much of the foundation that researchers, producers, and policymakers use to understand U.S. and global agriculture. Spark's response focused on identifying datasets and reports that have proven especially valuable, such as the International Agricultural Productivity data product, Commodity Costs and Returns, and reports on agricultural research and development expenditures; gaps where additional data would strengthen understanding of emerging practices and markets, such as animal feeding and grazing practices, manure management, and farm-level participation in voluntary carbon markets; and new topics that USDA should prioritize, such as the growing international demand for lower-emissions agricultural products, regularly updated data on agricultural emissions intensities and nutrient loadings, and improved public access to existing data on livestock production practices and economics.
